Paul Travis

From his 25 years of experience in high technology, marketing, and consulting, OneAccord Partner Paul Travis has developed two core specialties:

  • Determining and developing the right product(s) for the target market (full lifecycle marketing/management approach from market validation to requirements gathering/specification to communications/public relations)
  • Establishing the right marketing infrastructure to profitably attract and retain customers (from web marketing and analytics to appropriate Customer Relationship Management systems).

Paul co-authored the book Leadership on Demand: How Smart CEO’s Tap Interim Management to Drive Revenue. He drives profitability and customer mind share for clients by “helicoptering” between high-level strategy and tactical execution. Frequently called the Columbo of Marketing for tracking down clues to true customer behavior, he quotes Henry Ford, who said, “If I’d asked the consumer what they wanted, they’d have said a faster horse.”

Mr. Travis most recently founded marketing consulting services firm Vivify LLC, having recognized that startups needed the same things that had made him successful with larger private and public companies. In his corporate marketing career beforehand, he built a ten-person marketing team as VP Marketing at safety/security concern Net Nanny Software Inc. There he oversaw the integrated launch of two consumer products and the BioPassword enterprise product (later spun off).

At analytics provider Marketwave Corporation, his shift of focus and licensing structure into the enterprise space opened the door to serve firms such as Real Networks, Encyclopaedia Brittanica, Buy.com, The Washington Post, and Edmunds.com. This increased Marketwave’s run rate by 1,000% in just nine months — prompting a $77 million acquisition by a publicly traded competitor. Paul currently serves as a board member of privately held companies KidMail.net and OfficeSpace.com.

Since greater learning happens from failure than success, Paul also brings to clients the cross-industry battle scars and lessons from companies such as “SUNSPOT QuickGreen Cuisine”, the organic fast-food restaurant chain he launched in the mid-90’s.

Another unique piece of Paul’s background is his early career in software engineering, on billion-dollar icons like Microsoft Windows 3.0, Flight Simulator for Macintosh, and Word (Windows and DOS). At multiple companies, he honed skills in user interfaces, requirements analysis, and product specification.

Active in the local business community, Mr. Travis is President of the local chapter of the Institute for Management Consultants and co-founded the CRM Association chapter. He has shared lessons with students in guest lectures at the Univ. of Washington, Bastyr University, and Seattle Pacific University.

Paul studied Brand Management at the Executive Program at Harvard Business School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science & Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Out of lifelong commitment to “sharpening the saw”, Mr. Travis has participated in numerous diverse training programs including leadership, conflict resolution, and even natural gourmet cookery.

Travis resides with his wife and two children on Bainbridge Island (due west of Seattle). He is a committee chair for the Shir Hayam Jewish Community. A lover of nature, he enjoys hiking, camping, motorcycling, percussion, and singing in the shower.
