Roberto Ruvalcaba, Principal
Miami, Florida
Roberto is an executive uniquely poised to move products and services not only for the U.S. general market, but for the rapidly emerging Hispanic and Latin American spheres. Bicultural and bilingual, seasoned yet youthful, he has amassed formidable experience creating and managing sales and marketing divisions for some of the world's leading companies. Before joining OneAccord, multinationals Reader's Digest, Televisa and ACNielsen were all beneficiaries of his initiative, expertise and international perspective.
Roberto served as head of Consumer Marketing at Televisa Publishing in Miami, the print division of the largest Spanish content media company in the world, Televisa (NYSE, TV). There, he had total P&L responsibility for the subscriptions segments of over a dozen magazines including Spanish-language editions of ESPN, National Geographic, Prevention, Cosmopolitan, TVyNovelas, Vanidades and PODER, to name a few. Under his leadership, customer service complaints were reduced 50% by shortening delivery time to subscribers, while fulfillment costs were cut by over 35%. He also fully integrated a newly acquired publishing company (Hispanic Magazines) as he revamped acquisition efforts, improved retention rates and reduced bad debt.
Before relocating to Miami, Roberto enjoyed a successful career at Reader's Digest (RD). Initially hired in Mexico, he ran New Business Development and Market Research for Mexico, the U.S. Hispanic market, and the rest of Latin America. When RD acquired a new company in the U.S., Books are Fun, Roberto was chosen to launch that company in Mexico. After a two-year successful kick-off, his Business Plan and Management Operations System were adapted for use in European countries. After this new division was up and running in Mexico, Roberto was invited to work in the U.S. general market with headquarters in New York City. His charge was to increase market penetration in all major urban areas in the U.S., which he accomplished.
Roberto's career began at ACNielsen, the leading market research firm in the world, where he concentrated on key retail accounts with firms such as Walmart, Kmart, 7- Eleven, Comercial Mexicana and Oxxo. Among his primary duties was negotiating information-exchange agreements with top tier management. To ensure retailers maximized profits, he developed and delivered pivotal market trend and market share presentations for many principal consumer products categories including detergents, coffees and liquors.
Roberto earned an MBA from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and holds a Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science with a minor in Finance from Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico. Throughout an executive career marked by impressive direct marketing expertise, Roberto has lived in Mexico City, Manhattan, and Toronto. He currently resides in Miami. As passionate about life outside the professional realm he enjoys running, golf and cycling.
