Rick was invited to be the director of admissions and financial aidandassistant athletic director for a liberal arts college in Portland – where he set records for student recruitment and retention and helped reestablish NAIA athletic programs. He was then asked to lead a national software rebranding effort as an embedded marketing consultant for a publicly-held high-tech firm in Irvine, CA. With an offer to join a NCAA D1 basketball program in San Jose, he stepped in and served as an assistant coach, academic eligibility coordinator and director of marketing and promotions.
In 2008, he started the Richard Kenneth Johnsen Company, a collaborative integrated marketing communications consultancy, specializing in synthesizing brand managementand organizational development. He recently completed the first citywide comprehensive communications plan and integrated marketing initiative for the City of Hillsboro – Oregon’s fifth largest city and economic engine of Washington County. The University of Oregon, Lundquist College of Business, retained his services to introduce the Oregon Business Institute, rebrand the Oregon Executive MBA and provide organizational transition leadership.
