High-tech Industry Veteran Offers Advice on How Not to be a “Tech Slave”

SEATTLE, Washington (March 26, 2008) — MSNBC.com’s Success Magazine online published an article by Lisa Ocker on how to co-founder and partner Dave Parker was interviewed for the article, offering valuable tips from his own life on how to stay connected to both work and home life without sacrificing either.

“Early in my career, I was in the wireless industry, so it was fun to be plugged in all the time,” Parker explains in the article. Yet as the demands of business have heightened to the point that rapid responses to business communications are even expected after hours, wireless devices offering email, instant-message, and phone connectivity can rapidly turn into electronic handcuffs.

To keep the quality of life high for himself and his family, Parker says he focuses on the benefits of “reconnecting,” noting, “’Vacation time is a time for family and a time to recharge,’ so the electronic devices are turned off.”
